FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New Jersey's Finest Selected for Inaugural 2006 Calendar Cops™ Calendar
First-Ever Calendar to Showcase Physiques of Law Enforcement Officers
West Paterson, NJ (July 5, 2005) -
New Jersey COPS is proud to announce that 13 of New Jersey's fittest and finest law enforcement professionals have been selected to appear in Calendar Cops™, the first-ever photo calendar dedicated to showcase the muscular physiques of law enforcement officers. The 14-month calendar will feature photos, bios, and personal commentary from these guardians of the Garden State. More than 50 entries were received from police departments throughout New Jersey. The calendar is being produced by
New Jersey COPS, the only statewide trade journal serving New Jersey's law enforcement community.
The 13 law enforcement winners include (department first, county second): Officer Steven Petrosino (Perth Amboy, Middlesex County), Officer Dennis Hopson (Franklin Township, Somerset County), Officer Paul Pappas (Monroe Township, Middlesex County), Lieutenant Bruce A. Polkowitz (Edison, Middlesex County), Officer Patrick Ganley (Lacey Township, Ocean County), Officer Gary Yurkovic (New Brunswick, Middlesex County), Officer Malice Harrison (Plainfield, Union County), Officer Mike Perez (Stafford Township, Ocean County), Officer Raymond Jenkins (Bergenfield, Bergen County), Captain Kyle Kroll (South Orange, Essex County), Officer Mike Gonzalez (Kearny, Hudson County), Officer Billy Mack (Linden/Union County), and Officer Eric Calleja (Linden/Union County).
"The contest created a spirited rivalry among representatives of police departments throughout the state, who were each vying to be represented in the calendar," said Richard Webber, publisher of
New Jersey COPS. "Entries were received from individual officers as well as their colleagues, families, and friends who hoped to see their local hometown heroes in print.
"We are pleased that the calendar will show multiple aspects of New Jersey's finest, including their humanity, fitness, and competitiveness," said South Orange Police Chief James M. Chelel. "This project will bring tremendous visibility to many departments in our state, all of whom deserve recognition for the positive impact that they have in communities throughout New Jersey."
To be considered for the competition, officers were required to submit an entry form that included their rank, department, special unit (if any), and permission from their chief or director to participate. They were also required to submit a headshot and a shirtless photograph. Judges included the publisher and editor of
New Jersey COPS, Richard Webber and Donna Kenyon, respectively. They also included individuals from the fitness industry: Sean Jones, 2005 Venice Muscle Beach Champion, personal trainer, and model, and Michele Lynn, fitness model and expert for
www.bodybuilding.com.
The physical fitness of each candidate was judged based on the photos he submitted, and was a key consideration in the selection process. "We want to promote fitness and healthy living," said Webber. "Each calendar page will include a shirtless photograph of a selected male law enforcement model to reveal his muscular physique and overall fitness level. His personal exercise and nutrition routine will also be noted."
"We selected individuals from various ranks, departments, units, and ethnic backgrounds," said Webber. "Although the inaugural issue will feature male officers, one (fully clothed) female law enforcement model will be included in a group photo on the last calendar page."
Each of the 13 winners can add the title of "model" to their resume, as they will participate in a professional photo shoot within the next month for the final calendar shots.
